Sportsman Of The Year - A Suburban Philosophy is Jan Hellriegel's 4th studio album, with a unique twist: it is also a beautifully produced book with photos and 12 chapters based on the new songs. She describes Sportsman of the Year as a ‘musical in a book’. The book grew out of her album project when Jan realised the songs were taking a more philosophical, personal direction. She decided to share some stories in parallel with the music, each informed by the other. Includes access to high quality music files. Jan says Sportsman of the Year is about finally arriving at a place where she can look back at failures, disappointments and rejections with a sense of accomplishment and pride, knowing that without them she wouldn't be doing what she is today. It is about following your dreams, and never giving up.

The Author

Jan Hellriegel is a New Zealand songwriter, performer, producer, music publisher, business owner, mother, and now, author. She is also a passionate advocate for local music artists and the protection of their works and rights, and a noted music copyright expert. Jan was working on her 4th studio album Sportsman Of The Year when she realised that the thematic material could not be contained by 4 minute songs. So she wrote a bit more. This is her first book.

One year since I lost my dad suddenly and sadly. 😢 Miss him every day. He had the best parties, was philosophical, played the conet, was a very good potter and enjoyed books. He was still driving and riding an electric bike until his near last day. ❤️🎉💯 🦁🐟 thanks Dad for being so inspirational ❤️

🦋🌊🌺🌟Well I have just about finished the first leg of the "If Not Now, When? Tour. 🥰 I remember how much I enjoy getting out there, meeting people and playing a few tunes. Had an amazing time at The Jam Factory Tauranga … 🎶🌟💯the house was full and people laughed and were quiet - listening to tunes all at the right times. It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining… and I walked around Mount Maunganui the next day… an amazing adventure. To be honest I don’t think I have ever connected to people like this. How did the The Piano show in Christchurch go❓ I loved every minute... it was so much fun and the people who came seemed to have a good time so that means a lot. And it was so great to reconnect with friends and make a whole lot of new ones. In what would be a very long music career - I started it when I was 18… I don’t think I have ever had as many people tell me that they enjoyed my show as they have after ‘If not now,when?’ I think it’s because as you get older, you don’t need to put up protection barriers… because I guess you care more about the delivery than the image. When you are a geriatric muso… 🤣 you are the authentic you with hindsight. I really like making people laugh and I really like bringing a bit of joy to the world🥰 and singing tunes I am proud of.
